AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft School has earned back-to-back softball victories.
The Lady Rams defeated Hertford County Monday by a final of 15-0 and then came back Tuesday to down Wayne Country Day School 15-1.
In Monday’s contest, senior hurler Mary-Kate Morris struck out 10 to pick up the pitching victory.
The Lady Rams jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first inning and added four more in the second. They closed out the contest with two additional runs in the fourth frame.
“Even though we didn’t hit much, we learned a lot about base running,” Ridgecroft skipper Nichole Hughes said. “We have a young team, but we are really working well together. Every day we are getting better.”
Erin Cooke scored four runs in the contest for Ridgecroft while Nikki Smith and Taylor McKeel scored a pair each. Emily Grace and Dana Vann added one run each.
Morris led the team in hitting with a double.
Laurel Boone and Sara Hackney were credited for outstanding defensive efforts by Hughes.
A day later, Ridgecroft shook off a slow start to pound Wayne Country Day 15-1.
The game was tied at 1-all after one inning, but the Lady Rams scored four times in the second, one in the third and six times in the fourth to close out the victory.
“We got off to a slow start, but battled into the count,” Hughes said. “We put the ball in play better than we had in previous games. We really are starting to come around at the plate and our defense is doing the same.”
Morris struck out 10 Tuesday for the second day in a row.
Bailey Vann led the Ridgecroft offensive attack, but going 1-for-3 with a triple. Lauren Colson was also 1-for-3 while Erin Cooke was 1-for-4.
Dana Vann added an RBI.
The pair of wins boosted Ridgecroft’s overall record to 2-1.
