JACKSON — Two inmates at the Northampton County Jail have managed to get into more trouble behind bars.

According to Northampton County Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Brenda Burnette, inmates Reginald Johnson Jr., 19, and Dontay Pugh, 18, are each facing an assault charge after allegedly fighting with another inmate.

The alleged assault occurred last Tuesday (May 17) after a verbal argument broke out. Burnette said what caused the argument was unclear, but it may have been over the volume of the radio or television.

She added the inmate that was attacked received bruises and a hand injury that required stitches.

Burnette, who was summoned to investigate, charged Johnson and Pugh with assault with a deadly weapon and damage to property. Burnette said a mop and broom handle were broken during the altercation.

Johnson and Pugh were given a secured bond of $2,000 each.

Both men made their first appearance in court on Thursday where Johnson pled guilty and Pugh asked for a continuance until June 16.
