POWELLSVILLE – A drive-by shooting left one person injured here Tuesday afternoon.

Seventeen-year-old Dayquan Bazemore was shot while walking along N.C. 42 just outside the Powellsville town limits at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Detective Sgt. Ed Pittman of the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office said witnesses indicated an older model black Crown Victoria was traveling west on N.C. 42 when the back passenger window rolled down and a black handgun was pointed out of the car. The person in the back seat reportedly fired a shot which hit Bazemore in the left shoulder in what Det. Sgt. Pittman referred to as a “glancing type blow.”

The three subjects in the vehicle sped off toward Powellsville in the vehicle which was reported to have tinted windows and factory rims.

The victim was transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital where he was treated and released.

“This incident is still under investigation at this time,” Det. Sgt. Pittman said. “We ask that anyone with information please contact the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office at 794-5330.”
