WINDSOR – Bertie County is again in search of a Finance Director.
Monday, the Bertie County Board of Commissioners agreed unanimously to immediately end the employment of Finance Director Frank Kiah.
Kiah was hired in March to replace the retiring Lydia Hoggard. He was under a nine-month probationary period and was not under a contract to the county.
He was hired by a 3-2 vote of the Bertie County Commissioners after the five members of the board interviewed candidates. They voted unanimously to end his employment.
Bertie County Manager Zee Lamb said no severance package was included in the termination of employment because Kiah was still in his probationary period.
Lamb said the efforts to find a new director will begin as soon as possible. The process will start from the beginning and not pick up with those interviewed when Kiah was hired.
In the interim, Hoggard will serve as Interim Finance Director.
In another move, the commissioners appointed Misty Deanes Interim Emergency Management Coordinator. Deanes, who serves as Clerk to the Board, will hold the position in the absence of Rickey Freeman. Freeman is out indefinitely on medical leave.
