WINDSOR – A Windsor man is facing 10 charges related to sexual relations with a minor following an investigation by the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office.
John Paul Hedges, 40, of RC Road in Windsor was arrested earlier this month and charged following a two-month investigation by the sheriff’s office. Det. Sgt. Ed Pittman and Detectives Dwayne Outlaw and Harris Williams investigated after the alleged crimes were reported to the sheriff’s office.
Hedges faces two counts of statutory rape/ sex offense (defendant over six years older than the victim), five counts of indecent liberties with a child and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
He was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $150,000 cash bond with restrictions. He has since been released on bail.
Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said the case was investigated for some time and that a search warrant was executed on Hedges’ residence on August 4 in which several items were seized.
“The guys worked very hard on this case,” Sheriff Holley said. “I’m pleased with the way they took the information that was provided and worked diligently and methodically to make sure it was handled correctly.”
The investigation is ongoing, according to Sheriff Holley, and other charges are possible.
