COMO – The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in a field near Como on Nov. 16.

The EF-0 tornado traveled about 1.6 miles east across Hertford County and northeast of Severn, hugging the state line. Winds of up to 78 mph broke and uprooted trees, according to NWS officials at the Wakefield, VA office.

There were numerous downed trees along Boone’s Bridge and Statesville roads, but no reports of major structural damage or personal injuries. Two tractor-trailers were turned over, one each on Boone’s Bridge Road and Statesville Road.

NWS in Wakefield issued a tornado warning for northern portions of Northampton, Hertford and Gates counties that day.

Teresa Evans of Como reported “twisted trees” as well as downed trees and limbs in the area. She said one neighbor told her that her “mobile home was shaking” and the wind had blown out a window of the home.

Northampton County Emergency Management officials said there were no reports of damage there.
