GREENVILLE – Change is coming for a leading medical provider in eastern North Carolina.
Officials with University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina have scheduled a 1 p.m. meeting today (Wednesday) where they will announce a new name for the healthcare entity.
The meeting is scheduled for the UHSEC board room in Greenville.
UHSEC includes Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie and Bertie Memorial Hospital in Windsor. Others under the UHSEC medical umbrella include Albemarle Health, Beaufort Hospital, Chowan Hospital, Duplin General Hospital, Heritage Hospital, Outer Banks Hospital, Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Pungo Hospital, University Home Health and Hospice, ViQuest of Ahoskie and Greenville and physician practices. It is affiliated with the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
UHSEC officials were to announce its name change in September of this year before discovering that another UHS existed (Universal Health Services in Pennsylvania). That entity had a trademark on the UHS initials.
