Mabel Louise Knight

AULANDER – Mabel Louise Knight, age 99 of Aulander, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Guardian Care Nursing Home in Ahoskie.
She was born March 31, 1912 in Hertford County to the late Luther Knight and Susie Baugham Knight.
She was a retired farmer. At the age of 10 the Knight family bought the family farm where Miss Mabel help tend for 60 plus years and also raised hogs for a living. After selling the family farm she continued to have a garden until 2010. She was a very hard worker, made all of her own clothing and loved the outdoors, nature, livestock and all animals.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Garrett-Jones Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Aulander Cemetery. Rev. J.N. Baggett will officiate.
Left to cherish her memory is a niece, Betty Lou Carter and her husband, Paul, of Franklin, VA; two very special close friends and caregivers, Rev. John E. Byrum and Mary Hunt, both of Aulander; and special friends, Bob Hunt, Jim Liverman and wife, Eilen, and Moella Taylor, all from Aulander.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Leatha K. Johnson and Betty Sue Knight; and a brother, Lacy W. Knight.
