Eagles finish sweep

LASKER – Following the Lady Eagles victory over the Golden Hornet of the Eastern North Carolina School for the Death, the varsity boys took the court and completed the sweep with a 66-37 victory as all Eagles got in on the scoring action.

After several turnovers by both teams, C. Godde of ENCSD gave the Golden Hornet a three-point lead with a traditional three-point play at the 6:32 mark.

A basket by Brad Johnson and a three-pointer by Ryan Williams gave the Eagles of Northeast Academy a 5-3 lead.

Another hoop by Goode was answered by a Logan Simonowich basket giving the Eagles a 7-5 lead.

A basket by U. Ruiz tied the score at seven-all with 1:59 remaining in the first quarter.

Northeast then went on a 9-0 run on another three-pointer by Williams, and baskets by Will Glover, Williams and Avery Hargrave to close out the period with the Eagles taking a 16-7 lead.

The second quarter began with Goode and Simonowich swapping three-pointers.

Northeast then went on a 9-0 run on two baskets by Christian Fleetwood, baskets by Jake Bryant and Brad Johnson, and a free throw by Wrenn Woodard to take a 38-10 lead with 3:32 remaining in the quarter.

A free throw and basket by D. White of the Golden Hornet sandwiched a basket by Bryant gave the Eagles a 30-13 lead with1:27 remaining in the first half.

A three-pointer by Zack Byers and a free throw by Woodard closed out the first half scoring with Northeast leading 34-13.

Northeast scored the first six points of the third quarter as Glover, Hargrave and Williams hit baskets.

The Golden Hornet then went on a 6-1 run to close to 41-19 at the 4:47 mark.

The Eagles followed with an 11-2 run of their own fueled by two Williams three-pointers giving the Eagles a 52-21 lead at 2:23.

A free throw and two baskets by Goode and a basket by Cody Hurdle and free throw by Bryant closed out the scoring giving the Eagles a 55-26 lead after three quarters.

The fourth quarter saw the Eagle subs playing the entire eight minutes.

Baskets by Conner Hurdle, Cody Hurdle and Byers sandwiched a three-pointer by Q.Smith of ENCSD gave Northeast a 66-29 lead at the 2:33 mark.

The Golden Hornet then scored the last eight points on baskets by R. Gooden, T. McNeal, D. Foster and Smith giving the final score 66-37.

The Golden Hornet were led by C. Goode’s 17 points while the Eagles leading scorer was Ryan Williams with 17 points.
