Prison guard arrested

WINDSOR – A guard at Bertie Correctional Institution is facing multiple drug charges.
Mario Detron Peele, 28, of Windsor was charged with three counts Feb. 23 in connection with an incident that took place at the prison, according to Windsor Police Department Detective Matt Roebuck.
According to Roebuck’s report, Peele arrived at work, allegedly in possession of marijuana and staff from the prison contacted the Windsor P.D. Roebuck was dispatched and his investigation revealed the defendant attempted to enter the prison with a bag of food and then returned that food to his vehicle.
The controlled substance was allegedly inside the food container.
Peele was charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of a controlled substance on a prison or jail premises.
He was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
