Trio seek school board seats

WINTON – Filing closed Friday for two seats on the Hertford County Board of Education.
The filing, which ended at 12 noon, saw three people file for the two seats that will be on the November ballot.
All three names should be familiar to voters as they decide who to represent them for four-year terms on the board.
Both incumbents filed to seek reelection. Board Chairman David L. Shields filed this week and incumbent board member J. Wendell Hall made his intention known on the opening day of filing to seek another.
The third person seeking a seat on the board is longtime candidate Marcus Williams. Williams has filed in both of the last two school board elections.
In 2010 he finished fifth in a six-person field for three seats on the school board. Incumbents Dennis M. Deloatch and John D. Horton were reelected during that election and Sheila J. Porter was chosen for her first term.
Williams also ran against Hall and Shields four years ago when he was one of six people filing for the board. Williams finished third in that race.
The three will be on the ballot on Nov. 6.
