Hunter will serve us well

DuPont L. Davis was one of our most dedicated public servants. He spent 20 years as a Hertford County Commissioner and was always there for the people he served because he loved them.
Davis was proud of his service and reveled in being someone who did everything he could for the people, not just of Hertford County, but of the state of North Carolina.
He was perhaps most proud of the year he spent as President of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners. During that year he kept Hertford County in the forefront of the state’s leadership and did everything he could to help the citizens of our state.
Now, Davis is being followed by Howard J. Hunter III who was sworn in Saturday as president of the NCACC. Hunter has been already been an outstanding leader in Hertford County and the region and now he will take a role in the state’s affairs.
While no one can or should be Davis, it is good to see a person with the same leadership qualities taking the reins of the state’s association. Hunter is a quality leader in this region and someone who truly cares about the people of this state.
We are excited about the possibilities for what Hunter’s term as President of the state association will mean for Hertford County, but we’re also excited for the state as one of North Carolina’s brightest political stars takes the first step in providing service to his home state.
We congratulate Howard J. Hunter III for his election as President of NCACC. We are proud of his service thus far and excited about his future and ours.
