Chowan University women’s soccer certainly gave it their all in a recent match against Bob Jones University, when Morgan Klein scored for the Hawks to give them a 1-0 lead that lasted until the second half.

Victoria Mussleman, Sarah Porch, and Spencer Martin each scored to give the Bruins a 3-1 hold over the Hawks.

The Hawks men’s team was in the same boat as the women when it came to the Bob Jones match up. The Bruins took a 4-2 win over the Hawks.

Antonio Carrabotta and Jose Oteze each scored a goal for the Hawks with assists from Biez Neto and Kenny Moore.

The Chowan University volleyball team took a match from the Shaw University Bears in straight sets at the Shaw University Tri-Match, but fell to Claflin 3-1 in the second contest.

Nikira Fults and Monica Ruffin collected 12 and nine kills and April Wolfe had 10 digs in the victory. Karina Monroe and Nikira Fults collected 15 and 14 kills in the loss to Claflin, while Cindry Ehrich and April Wolfe had 16 and 14 digs.

CU Football has shined once again this year by taking their first victory over the Virginia State Trojans 33-21.

The win brought the Hawks over the .500 mark for this 2012 season.

Elliot Smalls must be running with “Goodyear” on his feet instead of “Nike”, because he has once again rushed for more than 100 yards.  Smalls had 23 carries and rushed for 136 yards.

Quarterback Cameron Stover performed his job just as he should by throwing for 223 yards and completing 15-23 pass attempts. J.R. Williams was on the receiving end of seven of those passes for a total of 111 yards and one touchdown.

After collecting the win against the Trojans the Hawks are now 5-4 overall and 4-2 in CIAA play. The Hawks return to their homestead to host Lincoln University, at 1 p.m. November 3.

The seniors will be recognized prior to kickoff as well as a halftime ceremony to honor the selections for the 2012 Jim Garrison Hall of Fame.

GO HAWKS!
