HOBBSVILLE – Hattie Ruth Bass Owens, 86, of 114 Zion Road, Hobbsville, died Monday, July 15, 2013 in her home.
Mrs. Owens was born in Chowan County and was the daughter of the late Quinton Trotman and Bessie Virginia Pierce Bass. A homemaker, she was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julian W. “Boots” Owens; by sisters, Edith White and Dorothy Chappell; and by brothers, Warner, Graham, and Marcus Bass.
Surviving are her daughters, Betty O. Morris and husband David, and Patsy O. Plyler and husband Fleet, all of Hobbsville; a brother, Percy Bass of Edenton; four grandsons, Chris Morris and wife Bobbi Jo, Kevin Morris and wife Cassandra, Daniel Plyler and Brian Plyler; and by two great-grandchildren, Michael Morris and Julie Morris.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 18 at 4:00 p.m. in Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Steve Hall. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements.
Friends may join the family at Betty and David’s home, 120 Zion Road, Hobbsville.
