AHOSKIE – AMSI, Donald Mitchell Rountree, age 63, was deployed to heaven on March 11, 2014.
Mr. Rountree was born in Bowling Green, KY, on July 11, 1950, a son of the late Donald Berton Rountree and Pauline Phelps Rountree Strother. He was retired from the US Navy after 21 years of service to his country; owned and operated American Dream, Inc. in Ahoskie, and taught motorcycle safety courses throughout the state for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
Don enjoyed playing racketball, splunking (caving), karate, fishing, scuba diving and drag racing. He had many hobbies, including his favorites, custom wrapping fishing rods and building and racing RC cars.
Don enjoyed life and had a neverending thirst for knowledge, which he shared freely. His family recalls his wonderful sense of humor, tall tales and practical jokes, and how he was always generous and willing to help anyone.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Sherry Rountree of the home; his sons, Don Rountree, II and wife, Jannell and their son, Allen of Windsor, and Dusty Rountree of Ahoskie. Also surviving is his step mother, Jean Farmer Rountree of Bowling Green, KY.
The family invites friends to join them in a time of celebration of Don’s life on Friday, March 14, 2014, at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Mr. Rountree will be buried in ArlingtonNationalCemetery.
