All-District team announced

WILMINGTON – The North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association has named its 2013-14 men’s and women’s All-District basketball teams and the Roanoke-Chowan area is well represented.
Named First-Team Men’s All-District is Hertford County High’s Jquwan Ruffin. Ruffin, a 5’ 11” 160-pound senior guard, was named to the team for a third straight year. Ruffin averaged 20 points and five rebounds per game and was also a two-time Northeastern Coastal Conference Player of the Year, and was a member of the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald Holiday Basketball Classic All-Tournament team three times.
Also on the First-Team is Aaron Carver of Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City. Carver was also named District-One “Player of the Year”. The senior center averaged 16.9 points and 16.1 rebounds per game for the Eagles this season.
Named to the Second-Team All-District is Hertford County’s O’Shane Ximines. The senior forward, who has signed to play football at Old Dominion University, averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds per game. Also named second-team was Keion Crossen of Northampton High School. Crossen, who has signed to play football next year at Western Carolina University, averaged 16 points and 5 rebounds per game for the Jaguars. Jack Konstanzer of First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills was also named to the second team. The sophomore guard averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds per game.
Northampton High’s Barkim Moses was named Third-Team All-District. Moses was a junior forward.
Named First-Team All-District for the women were Kaila Ballard of Gates County High School. Ballard, a sophomore center, averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds per game. Also on the All-District First-Team was De’Najah Porter of Bertie High. Porter, a junior guard, averaged 14 points and 15 rebounds per game. A third member of the First-Team was Mikeara Jordan of Pasquotank High. Jordan, a senior guard, averaged 23.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Named to the Second-Team All-District was Shaquoria Miles of Northampton County. Miles, a senior center, averaged 16.9 points and 19.6 rebounds per game. Also on the second team was Hydia Bembry of Edenton J.A. Holmes. The junior guard averaged 16.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Aleah McNeal of Northeastern High School was the final member of the second team; a sophomore guard, McNeal averaged 19.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
On the women’s All-District Third-Team was Kyara Rodgers of Hertford County, a sophomore guard; senior center Shaunquisha Leary of Bertie High; Corvonne Griffin, a junior guard at Northeastern; and, Chelsea Elliott, a senior forward at Pasquotank High School.
