AHOSKIE – After opening the season with a win, a loss, and a tie, Ridgecroft put a couple of more in the win column last week with a pair of wins against Freedom Christian on Thursday and Hertford County on Friday.
Mary-joe Harrell got the lone goal against the Patriots in a 1-0 Lady Rams win. Hennie Larabee in goal accounted for 14 saves in registering the shutout. Shining on defense for the Rams were Emma Wood Boone and Tanja Sauermann. Striker Chloe Dunn had three shots-on-goal but it was midfielder Harrell’s that found the back of the net.
“The defense played very well today,” said first-year coach Hayes Bryant.
Friday the Rams won in a shutout romp over Hertford County, 8-0. Cameron Basnight had a hat trick of three goals while Alex Evans added two more and Larabee, Boone, and Annie DiLustro had the other goals for Ridgecroft.
Mary-joe Harrell accounted for four assists and Larabee came out of goal to get her first score of the season. All three of Basnight’s goals came in the first three minutes of the match in the first half and Boone’s goal was scored by a defender.
“We came out strong and scored early,” said Bryant. “The midfielders and strikers played very well today and we passed the ball well which generated a lot of goal-scoring opportunities.”
Ridgecroft is now 3-1-1. They hosted Trinity Christian of Greenville on Tuesday before playing their next three matches on the road.
