ROXOBEL – June Parker Joyner, age 61 of Roxobel, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Mrs. Joyner was born in Bertie County on June 4, 1952, a daughter of the late J. C. and Sallie Elizabeth (Harrell) Parker. June was owner and operator of June’s Beauty Salon in Roxobel. She was an active member of Sandy Run Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also very active in the Hertford-Gates Relay for Life. June enjoyed her work as a hairdresser and working in her yard growing flowers, but being the loving wife, mother, and grandmother that she was, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, vacationing with them to the mountains or the beach, and most of all, spoiling her grandchildren.
Besides her father, J.C. Parker, and her mother, Sallie H. Parker, who predeceased her on April 7th, she was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Jackie Brinkley, in February of this year, and her half-brother, Bill Parker of Rich Square.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Manuel Lee Joyner, Sr. of the home; her two sons, Manuel Lee Joyner Jr. of Roxobel, and Mitchell Clinton Joyner and wife, Sarah, of Rolesville; two grandsons, Mason Lee Joyner, and Garrett Alan Joyner of Rolesville; four sisters, Linda P. Lassiter of St. Johns, Yvonne P. Cooper and husband, Jimmy, of Whitakers, Anne P. Brinkley of Ahoskie, and Patty P. Mitchell and husband, Gene, of Roxobel; a brother, Alton Parker and wife, Martha, of Roxobel; a sister-in-law, Clara Parker of Rich Square; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sandy Run Baptist Church, Roxobel, with the Rev. Dave Rimel and the Rev. H. C. Boschen officiating. Burial will follow in Roxobel Kelford Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hertford-Gates Relay for Life, Echoes of Love Relay Team, C/O Anne Brinkley, 749 NC 461, Ahoskie, NC 27910, or Sandy Run Baptist Church, P.O. Box 95, Roxobel, NC 27872.
