MURFREESBORO – ChowanUniversity saw 182 seniors walk across the commencement stage on May 10 in the Helms Center on the historic campus – setting a new record for its largest graduation class since reestablishing status as a four year institution 20 ago.

With more than 50 graduates achieving a Latin Honor such as Summa cum Laude, the festive day was a joyous gift for Mother’s Day weekend.

Chowan officials chose a range of student leaders from across the varied disciplines to address the graduating class this year.

Roanoke-Chowan area students among Chowan University’s Class of 2014 were:

Pedro Aiala of Murfreesboro, via Brazil, graduated Magna Cum Laude and on the Deans List with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration Management. Aiala was an Alpha Chi Scholar and was featured Who’s Who Among Students in AmericanUniversities and Colleges.

Captoria Anglin of Murfreesboro graduated Cum Laude and on the Presidents List with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies Education. Anglin was an Alpha Chi Scholar and earned the 2014 Charles L. Paul History Award.

Lauren Baker of Colerain graduated on the Deans List with a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Communications.

Timothy Batchelor of Murfreesboro graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.

Cherlene Bond of Colerain graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences.

Hunter Bracy of Ahoskie graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration Accounting.

Wendy Bright of Hobbsville graduated on the Presidents List with a Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health Biology.

Elizabeth Brinkley of Ahoskie graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health Biology.

Carolyn Brown of Murfreesboro graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences. Brown was an Alpha Chi Scholar.

Kathryn Bryant of Rich Square graduated Summa Cum Laude and on the Presidents List with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Bryant was an Alpha Chi Scholar.

Kimberly Caine of Murfreesboro graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Counseling Psychology.

Felita Cherry of Ahoskie graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences.

Darrick Clark of Murfreesboro graduated on the Deans List with a Bachelor of Science degree in Counseling Psychology.

Vanessa Council of Rich Square graduated Summa Cum Laude and on the Presidents List with a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Communications. Council was an Alpha Chi Scholar and earned the 2014 Outstanding Graduate in Graphic Communications Award.

Johnie Tolefree of Murfreesboro graduated on the Deans List with a Bachelor of Science degree in Studio Art. Tolefree earned the 2014 Outstanding Graduate in Visual Arts Award.
