AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Police Department encourages all town citizens to lock their vehicles while not in use, especially overnight.

APD Chief Troy Fitzhugh reported three recent break-ins of vehicles that were parked in private driveways. Two of those break-ins were in the Colonial Acres area; the other was on South Street.

“Basically what these culprits are looking for are unlocked vehicles, helping them to gain easy access,” Fitzhugh said. “Once inside the vehicle they look for quick grab types of items, like loose change, CD’s, small electronic items and even some personal effects.”

Fitzhugh said his department will beef-up the frequency of night patrols.

“I would encourage our citizens to help reduce these types of crimes by simply locking the doors of their vehicles at night. Another deterrent is to park the vehicle in or very near a well-lit area if all possible.”

If you witness a break-in, call the APD immediately at 252-332-5011.
