The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close two roads in Hertford County related to construction projects.
The first of the closures is scheduled immediately as T.A. Loving Company of Goldsboro is to begin work this week to replace the Cutawhiskie Swamp bridge on Menola – St. Johns Road (SR 1141), approximately two miles north of the St. John community. This particular road is a popular route of travel for those residing in eastern Northampton County to gain easy access to NC 561 and into Ahoskie.
An alternative route closest to the work site is (from the Menola side of the bridge) Blowe Road (SR 1144), to Flea Hill Road (SR 1142), to Liverman Mill Road (SR 1137), to Union and then to NC 561 at Fraizer’s Crossroads.
The work is expected to take 120 days.
On Saturday, July 19, the contractor performing the widening project on US 158 between the Murfreesboro Bypass and Winton will close Mt. Tabor Church Road (SR 1176) at its intersection with US 158. The expected duration of the closure is 45 to 60 days.
Cool Springs Road (SR 1167) will be used as the detour route around the construction site.
