WINTON – The Hertford County Board of Commissioners at their July 21 meeting unanimously approved the sale of a four-acre tract of land within the Hertford County Industrial Park near Winton to a private company.
Following a public hearing during the session, the Board agreed to sell the land, located on the east side of State Road 1218, for $4,000 per acre to R.D. Hall Transport Co., Inc. The sale would be a cash transaction.
Hall Transport is a 12-year-old trucking and freight company owned by Rickey Hall that provides transport services of feed products across the Middle Atlantic and Southeastern states; often contracted by such companies as Perdue and Valley Protein to deliver livestock feed and vegetable oil to distribution centers.
Hall stated in his application that he desired to acquire approximately four to six acres for constructing a 100 x 75 foot metal building that would serve as his company’s home office headquarters for maintenance and administrative operations. The area would also include office space, two truck bays, and an attached truck wash area. A cement parking lot would also be installed at a total estimated cost of $180,000.
Hall went on to add that he hoped to break ground and begin his construction within 180 days of acquiring the land, if his proposed sale was granted and hoped to complete the project within two years.
Following the public hearing the Board unanimously approved the sale.
