The Show Goes On!

Those attending the final day of the 29th annual North Carolina Watermelon Festival had to dodge raindrops, but the event still remains as a crowd-pleaser. Traditional events included the crowning of the Festival’s Little Princess – Erin Claire Flanagan (center, top photo), the daughter of Benji and Phelicia Flanagan of Raleigh. Anna Griffith (left), daughter of David and Shena Griffith of Murfreesboro, was the first runner-up. Madison Lee Joyner (right), daughter of Russ and Anelle Joyner of St. John, was the second runner-up. Shown below are the winners of the Little Mr. Farmer (Mason Palazzolo, son of Melinda Myers and Nino Palazzolo of Ahoskie) and Little Miss Farmer (Hannah Slaughter, daughter of Jason and Erica Slaughter of Ahoskie) events. Also shown is a common sight on Saturday….festival go’ers huddled under umbrellas and wishing for the rain to stop. Staff Photos by Cal Bryant
