JACKSON – Two individuals wanted on outstanding arrest warrants from other states are behind bars here.
On Tuesday, Northampton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel at the intersection of NC 46 and I 95 near Garysburg about a possibly assault.
NCSO Deputy Kenny Melton was the first to arrive at the parking lot and spoke with Melissa Marie Cahill, age 35 of Woodbridge, VA, about the incident. As Melton was speaking with Cahill, a male, 56-year-old Jeffery Edwin Starling of Fanning Springs, Florida came up to the deputy.
At that time, Cahill informed Melton that Starling had assaulted her before the deputy had arrived.
Melton continued his investigation, learning that Cahill and Starling were fugitives from other states and placed both under arrest.
Cahill is wanted in Virginia on drug charges. She was given a $100,000 bond and is awaiting extradition to Virginia.
Starling is wanted in the state of Florida for vehicle theft, theft of firearm, and possession of weapon by a felon. He is jailed in Jackson under a $300,000 bond and is awaiting extradition back to Florida.
NCSO Lt. Jason Boone, and Sgt. Antoine Johnson, Officer Tommy Staton of Gaston Police Department, Officer Patrick Jacobs of the Garysburg Police Department and Chief George Reed assisted Melton in the investigation and subsequent arrests.
