Eagles have landed

AHOSKIE – The Northeast Academy Lady Eagles swept rival Ridgecroft School 3-0 in a TIC volleyball match here Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles won by scores of 25-22, 25-14, and 25-19.
In the first game Northeast raced out to a big lead at 22-14. However, Ridgecroft fought back and came within two points at 24-22. But Northeast was able to eke out the winning point as they were led in the first set by the serving of Haley Mayle and McKayla Davis with three kills.
In the second set Northeast once more raced out to a big lead, this time nearly doubling up the Lady Rams as they pushed it to 22-12. They would go on to win by eleven, 25-14.
The third set started out 3-3 before Northeast went on an 11-5 run to take a 14-8 lead. The Lady Rams got no closer than 24-19 as Northeast took the last point and the final set 25-19 to win the match at 3-0 over the home team.
Chelsea Rose led the Lady Eagle attack with five aces, six digs, and two kills. Mayle had three aces, a dig, and six kills. Holley Byrum added three aces, a pair of digs, and a kill. Davis finished with one dig and eight kills with Anna Liverman adding three aces and an assist. Alexis Soper led all players with nine assists.
“The ladies executed well and we played well as a team,” said Lady Eagles coach Cap Pfeiffer.
Ridgecroft won the jayvee match in a sweep: 25-14 and 25-19.
For Northeast, it was their second win this week, having downed Northampton County on Monday, 3-1; winning by scores of 25-19, 24-26, 25-22, and 25-19.
The Lady Eagles improve to 6-2 and 3-1 in the Tarheel Independent Conference. They will stay on the road and play Terra Ceia today (Thursday) while Ridgecroft is also away today, with a match at Hobgood.
