MURFREESBORO – A two-week investigation by the Murfreesboro Police Department has resulted in the arrest of a town resident who stands accused of sexually assaulting two children.
Damon Wilson Barnes, 39 of 511 Merriman Avenue, was arrested without incident on Friday afternoon at his residence.
According to Murfreesboro Police Chief Darrell Rowe, Barnes was charged with six felony counts each of first degree sex offense with a child, indecent liberties with a child, and sex offense in a parental role.
Barnes was taken before a local Magistrate who set the bond at $700,000 secured. He was jailed, awaiting his initial appearance in Hertford County District Court on Tuesday.
Rowe and MPD Lt. Joe Burgess made the arrest.
“This arrest was a culmination of an investigation that began two weeks prior,” Rowe stated. “Lt. Burgess handled the investigation and based upon the information he collected he was able to obtain the arrest warrants. I thank him for the way he has thoroughly handled all aspects of this case.”
Rowe added that the two victims have had no contact with the suspect since the outset of the investigation.
“We received information from a family member that led us to begin this investigation,” Rowe said.
