COLERAIN – Max Truman Hoggard, age 69 of Colerain, passed away on October 4, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on June 5, 1945 to the late Lewis and Elizabeth “Lucy” Jernigan Hoggard in Colerain, NC. Truman was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid sportsman that enjoyed hearing dogs run, fishing, and the game of baseball. An award winning baseball player during his youth, Truman continued his passion for baseball into coaching little league. A lifelong baseball history fan and statistician, he loved following his team, the Boston Red Sox.
Truman owned Hoggard’s Supermarket in Harrellsville, NC from 1987-1999 serving as the meat cutter. Hoggard’s was where you went to find the latest news on the hunting and fishing scene from the area. He enjoyed spending time with his customers talking about his own hunting and fishing excursions. Truman also loved reading.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, “Lanny” Hoggard.
Truman is survived by his wife, Brenda; his son, Max Truman Hoggard II and wife April of Harrellsville, NC; daughter, Krista Shea Hoggard of San Diego, CA; grandson, “Nick” Jordan Hoggard, and granddaughter, Kacie Logan Hoggard, both of Harrellsville, NC; sister, Jackie Mizelle of Colerain, NC; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the home.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service Chapel, Ahoskie, NC, with the Reverend Greg Hurdle officiating. Burial will follow at Harrellsville Cemetery, Harrellsville, NC.
