Conway parade kicks-off 2014 holiday season

CONWAY – The Jolly Old Elf from the North Pole will make his first visit to the Roanoke-Chowan area on Saturday when the town of Conway kicks-off the holiday season locally with their annual Christmas parade.
The parade, which starts at 10 am, begins on the west end of Main Street, at Vann Street, and will travel east, ending at Conway Middle School.
Immediately following the parade, the Conway Volunteer Ladies Auxiliary will host its annual Ho! Ho! Ho! Christmas Craft Show in the Middle School gym. Holiday-themed craft vendors will sell their wares. Concessions will also be offered for sale.
The holiday spirit continues in Conway on Saturday night with the town’s annual Community Christmas Caroling. That event gets underway at 7 pm under the tent at 301 West Main Street with Nancy Joyner of Aulander and Walking by Faith of Roanoke Rapids as the featured performers.
Representatives from The Music School of Roanoke Rapids are scheduled to lead those assembled in a Caroling Sing-Along. Hot chocolate will be served.
Also on Saturday (Nov. 29), the Town of Ahoskie will light its Christmas tree during a 6:30 p.m. ceremony at No Man’s Land Park on Main Street.
Choirs are needed to perform Christmas carols. To volunteer, contact the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce at 332-2042.
The Christmas parade season continues in the Roanoke-Chowan area on Saturday, Dec. 6 when the Rich Square Community Club will hold its annual parade at 10 a.m. The club encourages churches, schools, clubs and civic organizations to participate. Be sure to include Christmas decorations on vehicles participating in the parade.

Also on Dec. 6, the Town of Cofield will host its annual Christmas parade at 2 p.m. Those wishing to participate are urged to contact the Town Hall (252-358-8611) by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5. There is no entry fee.
The annual Christmas parade sponsored by the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. Participating units will line up at the west end of Main Street in front of the Police Station.
The Chamber is seeking parade entries: floats, bands, horses, wagons, characters, dancers, cheer squads, vintage cars, squadrons, marching step teams, etc., all decorated or adorned for the season.

Additionally, Chamber officials are seeking choirs to sing Christmas carols at No Man’s Land Park on Main Street following the parade, as well as a vendor to sell hot chocolate, coffee, Christmas cookies or other holiday fare during the caroling event.
