SILVER SPRING, MD – John Gayloid Boone, age 87, a retired Research Chemist for the Department of Transportation, quietly entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 13, 2015.

First married to Lillian Nell Hern, then later to Gloria Watson Grant, John is survived by his sons, Sherman G. Boone (Diane), and Kenneth L. Boone (Jenny); and by grandchildren, Jennifer R. Boone, Stephen Alex Boone, and Kate MaCaulay Boone.

Born in Ahoskie, NC to H. Sherman and Daffodil Boone, John was a resident of the Washington, DC area for over 60 years, residing the last 14 years at Riderwood Village, Silver Spring, Maryland.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Riderwood Side Chapel at 1:30 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. in the Riderwood Chapel, 3120 Gracefield Rd., Silver Spring, MD. A reception will be held at 3 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Montgomery Station Building on the Riderwood Campus.

Interment will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Boone Family gravesite in Ahoskie, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in John’s memory to be sent to Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, 5301 North Capitol Street N.E., Washington, DC 20011; Holy Cross Hospice, 1500 Forest Glen Road, Silver Spring, MD 20910; or Benevolent Fund at Riderwood, 3120 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904.
