MERRY HILL – A Chowan County woman came away with only minor non-life threatening injuries Sunday afternoon following a single-vehicle accident in Bertie County.
According to Trooper J.C. Copeland of the North Carolina Highway Patrol who investigated the accident, at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, Tabitha Clayton, 21, of Edenton was traveling northbound on Jeff White Road (SR 1361) near Merry Hill when the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta she was operating ran off the roadway. The driver over-corrected causing the vehicle to cross left of the center line. The vehicle then collided with a ditch, overturned and came to rest in the roadway.
The Patrol says neither speed nor alcohol was involved in the crash.
Clayton did not have to be transported by Bertie EMS to Vidant Chowan nor Vidant Bertie Hospital, and her injuries are believed to be minor.
Trooper Copeland says the Highway Patrol would like to remind everyone that with spring and summer approaching, and traffic on the roadways increasing, it pays for drivers to be especially aware and careful when they are driving.
