Gary B. Joyner

AULANDER – Gary Bodiford Joyner, age 45, of St. Johns, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Downeast Health & Rehabilitation Center in Gatesville, N.C.

Gary was born in Hertford County, N.C. on January 30, 1970, a son of the late Marian Bodiford and William H. “Billy” Joyner. He was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church.

In 1988, Gary graduated from Ahoskie High School where he was active in the schools music program. During his high school years Gary worked for his father’s business, at Radio Shack in Ahoskie. He went on to graduate from Halifax Community College, with a degree in Radiology Technician. He pursued a health care career at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and Halifax Regional Hospital. He worked at the hospital most recently as a nuclear medical technician. Gary exhibited his entrepreneurial spirit as an owner/operator of a Sub Shop on Main St. Ahoskie.

Gary’s love of medicine, music, movies, food, and animals were exceeded only by his love of family and friends. His friends were quite a large group. He cared enough about all people to turn almost everyone he met into a friend. Gary will be remembered in many ways as a skilled provider of health care, a caring/loving brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend and co-worker. He was a devoted Christian.

Gary is survived by his brothers, Freddy Joyner and wife, Hilda of Clayton, NC, and Al Joyner and wife, Jackie of Lake Lure, NC; and his sister, Judy Joyner Perry and husband, Pat of Ahoskie, NC.

Gary is also survived by four nephews and two nieces; Jesse Sumner and wife, Leigh, Ashton Weller and husband, Brian, Will Joyner, Lee Joyner, Matt Joyner and Victoria Wiley and husband, Justin; and two great nephews and seven great nieces.

A celebration of life service will be held June 10, 2015 at St. Johns Baptist Church. The family will be receiving friends at the church at 1:00 pm followed by church services at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Job Cemetery, Aulander, NC.
