AHOSKIE – Post 102 scored eight runs in the fifth inning to break open a tight game and went on to crush Edenton Post 40, 135, in a junior American Legion baseball game here Wednesday night.

Edenton opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning before Ahoskie countered in the bottom of the frame.

Jordan Robinson reached on a base on balls, but when Trevor Lee singled to right field, Robinson was thrown out trying to take third. Lee took second on the throw that nailed Robinson and later scored on an Evan Lassiter RBI single to right field.

The hit parade continued with Bradley Edwards and Frankie Reppy banging out backtoback base hits that loaded the bases. Lassiter and Edwards both scored on a wild pitch and Post 102 was in front 31 after just one full inning of baseball.

Ahoskie added two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Trent Munford walked and when Robinson singled to center Munford scored Post 102’s fourth run on an outfield error as Robinson took second on the throw. Lassiter then smacked an RBI single that scored Robinson and Ahoskie had upped its lead to 51 after two.

Edenton crept within a run when Post 40 put three runs up in the top of the third and it was 54 after three complete innings of baseball.

That score held until the bottom of the fifth when Ahoskie scored eight runs in the inning.

After loading the bases, Post 102 got its first run of the frame on an error. The next run came on a bases loaded walk. Another base-onballs plated the third run of the inning. As Post 40’s pitching completely fell apart, Ahoskie took advantage and scored six total runs on basesloaded walks.

One more run did come the oldfashioned way as Edwards got a base hit to drive in Lee. When the dust settled, Post 102 was looking at a ninerun 134 lead after five.

Edenton scored a run in the top of the sixth but that was all as Ahoskie claimed an eightrun conference game victory.

Munford went the distance and claimed the win, allowing five runs on 11 hits and he also had four strikeouts.

Ahoskie also had 11 hits with Lassiter leading the way with three hits and three runs-battedin. Edwards also had three hits while Robinson, Lee, Reppy, Munford, and Parker Bradley had one hit each.

“Trent pitched a great game for us,” said Post 102 Coach Dave Ellis. “We hit the ball and took advantage of walks. Defensively, we can play better but this was a big conference win for us.”

Ahoskie raised its overall record to 28 and 25 in league play. Their next game is also a home date: a Saturday doubleheader with Perquimans beginning at 6 p.m. at Hertford County High Field.
