PENDLETON – The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into a shooting that left two men dead near here late Saturday night.
Northampton Sheriff Jack Smith said 45-year-old Kyle Daye of Murfreesboro and 43-year-old Curtis Barnes Jr. of Raleigh were both discovered deceased in the yard of a residence on Horne Road upon the arrival of deputies around 11:20 p.m.
“Both men had died of gunshot wounds,” Sheriff Smith stated. “There was also an adult female at the scene who was seriously injured.
“This is so pitiful; so sad, and so uncalled for,” said the Sheriff.
Smith added that his investigators have been unable, to date, to interview the female, whose cause of injuries was not released.
“She was immediately transported to the hospital,” Smith stated. “We were not able to interview her due to her injuries.”
Sheriff Smith said there was one other person at the residence upon the arrival of his deputies. He identified that person, who was not injured, as the father of Kyle Daye.
“He (Daye’s father) has been interviewed,” Smith said. “We still need to speak with the female victim, as soon as she is medically able. Those interviews, along with the results of the autopsy on the two shooting victims, will hopefully give us the answers we’re seeking.”
While the investigation moves forward, Smith said the Horne Road residence remains secured.
“We’re treating that residence and the yard as an active crime scene,” the Sheriff remarked.
No arrests have yet been made in the double shooting.
Sheriff Smith thanked Northampton County Emergency Services, the Jackson Police Department, and the Conway-Severn Rescue Squad for their assistance, along with his investigators and deputies who worked the scene.
