JACKSON – Northeast Academy split a pair of tennis matches last week.
The Lady Eagles dropped a tough, close match with rival, Lawrence Academy, 5-4, but bounced back to trounce Roanoke Rapids, 8-1.
Against the Lady Warriors at the Northampton County Wellness Center on Tuesday, Tracy Clark and Lauren Flythe teamed up to win the first doubles match, and after teammates Carly Stephenson and Jessie Martin claim a 9-7 victory, the Lady Eagles were ahead, 2-1.
But Lawrence stormed back to win the singles matches four-to-two. Stephenson and Flythe registered wins for NEA – Flythe’s match coming down to a tie-breaker; but it was Joyner Rascoe, Emma Cobb, Savannah Stevens, and Bea Mordecai claiming wins for LAW.
Thursday at the same venue, Northeast swept the singles and dropped only one doubles match against the Lady Yellow Jackets of Roanoke Rapids.
Northeast hosted Hertford County in a match on Monday that was not completed by press-time.
