GATESVILLE – It’s been said that dynamite comes in small packages.

That’s indeed the case with the Gates County Chamber of Commerce….a small organization in an equally small rural county that is “exploding” with new ideas and growth.

Recently, the Gates County Chamber tipped its own cap by celebrating their seventh year of existence during an event held at one of the Chamber’s newest members – The Gates House.

Following a wine and cheese social, Chamber President Janet Tranquillo thanked those attended the anniversary celebration.

Sharon Ward, The Gates House administrator, also welcomed Chamber members and promised relaxed, luxurious evening with great service and fine food.

Tranquillo told the audience, “The mission of the Gates County Chamber of Commerce is to serve as the leading voice in providing advocacy, promotion and opportunities for the business and professional community of Gates County.

“The Gates County Chamber of Commerce was established in 2009,” she said, “to assist the local business community and the general public to discover more of Gates County.

“Whether it’s finding new customers for your business or finding a local business or service for yourself, the Chamber wants to help,” she said. “We are also ready to offer valuable information for new business start-ups as well as established enterprises interested in relocating or expanding into Gates County. Chamber members act in one united voice helping to steer the direction and future of the area’s business and economic climate.

“And finally,” Tranquillo said, “the Chamber is a unique opportunity to develop your network by giving business leaders an opportunity to meet and work together for professional, philanthropic and social endeavors.”

Tranquillo also stressed that the Gates Chamber works to support the business and agricultural community of the county and works with local government to create and promote business opportunities that will establish long term economic growth and prosperity. The Chamber strives to create an environment within the County that supports the local economy by buying local, builds a strong network of contacts and resources, and creates a spirit of community through various community and service events.

Since its founding, the Gates County Chamber of Commerce has participated in a variety of meetings and networking opportunities across the region to represent Gates County. Among its partner agencies are NC’s Northeast Alliance, NC’s Northeast Tourism, Northeast Workforce Development Board, and Roanoke Chowan Partners for Progress. Chamber officials have also served as the host to regional meetings.

The Gates County Chamber also salutes its members by recognizing a Business of the Month.

The organization is governed by a 13-member Board of Directors. It currently lists a membership of 53 businesses.

Members and guests attending the anniversary celebration enjoyed a buffet meal prepared by the Gates House.
