AHOSKIE, NC – Marvin Augustus Carter, Sr., 85, of 105 Poplar Drive, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
Mr. Carter was born in Norfolk, VA on March 29, 1931, and was the son of the late Marvin Besserick and Lillian Lucille Powell Carter. A retired assistant manager with Be-Lo Supermarkets, he was a member of Hickory Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church. A veteran, he had served in the US Air Force.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Merilyn Semans Carter; three daughters, Brenda Heflin and husband Jim of Moore, OK, and Annette Carter and Angela Carter, both of Wilmington; three sons, Marvin Carter, Jr. and wife Pam of Crawfordsville, IN, Randy Carter of Moyock, and Tim Carter and wife Mary of Roswell, GA; a sister, Ann Harris of Ahoskie; a brother, Thomas Carter of Norfolk, VA; five grandchildren, Joshua Roche and wife Kelli, Paul Lane, Steven Carter, Virginia Heflin, and Justin Carter and wife Elizabeth; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Tuesday, February 28 at 2:00 p.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA, and will be officiated by the Rev. Jim Skipper.
Memorial contributions may be made either to any chapter of the American Lung Association or to Hickory Chapel Original F.W. B. Church, 530 NC 561 East, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
