James C. Daughtry

WOODLAND – James Calvin Daughtry, age 84, died on June 15, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville, NC.
Mr. Daughtry was born in Northampton County on January 17, 1933, a son of the late John Leonard and Mary Spivey Daughtry. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and was retired as an Electrician for Northampton County.
Calvin enjoyed doing many things in his life, including caring for animals, especially raising his goats in years past. The thing he enjoyed most was being the owner and operator of the Lasker Barn Dance, which many people have enjoyed over the years, playing the guitar and singing, as long as his health permitted.
Besides his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa Jean Daughtry, and three brothers, Gene, Tom and Bill Daughtry.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of almost 63 years, Barbara McDonald Daughtry; two sons, James Kenneth “Pete” Daughtry and wife, Sandra Crowder Daughtry of Kents Store, VA, and Jeffrey Leonard Daughtry and wife, Sandra Graham Daughtry of Conway, NC; three sisters, Virginia Smith and husband, Linwood of Woodland, NC, Lucy Gray Browder and husband, Ashby of Edenton, NC, and Mary Jo Bridgers and husband, Willie of Lasker, NC; three brothers, Charles “Dick” Daughtry and wife, Nancy, and Wallace Daughtry and wife, Ruth of Woodland, NC, and Bennett Daughtry and wife, Jane of Murfreesboro, NC; five grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 18, 2017, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Rich Square, NC, and other times at the home.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Monday, June 19, 2017, at 11:00 am at the Lasker Cemetery, with Rev. Ashby Browder, officiating.
