JACKSON – A first term member of the Northampton County Board of Education was arrested here last week for simple assault.
Lloyd Pittman, age 23 of Rich Square, turned himself in on June 14 at the Sheriff’s Office.
Northampton Sheriff’s Captain Patrick Jacobs said the charge against Pittman is a misdemeanor.
Pittman posted a $500 secured bond. He is scheduled to make his next appearance in Northampton County District Court on July 18.
Jacobs was not able to share much information about the case, only referencing that an adult male, Alfonso Jordan, was listed as the complainant on the arrest warrant. Jacobs said the complaint was filed on June 13 and the arrest warrant was drawn up the same day.
It is not known where or when the assault took place.
According to the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald archives, Pittman was elected to his first term on the Northampton County Board of Education in March of last year.
The News-Herald contacted Dr. Monica Smith-Woofter, Superintendent of Northampton County Public Schools, concerning the alleged assault by Pittman. According to Smith-Woofter’s administrative assistant, the Superintendent had no comment.
The News-Herald also learned that Pittman is a former employee of the Northampton County Register of Deeds.
