LEWISTON-WOODVILLE – An early morning accident near here Thursday claimed the life of a Bertie County man.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper C.W. Godwin said 19-year-old Trequan Perry was killed in a single vehicle crash on NC 308.

Godwin stated that at the time of the 12:55 a.m. accident, Perry was apparently heading home to Merry Hill after working a shift at the Perdue Processing Plant.

The Trooper said the accident occurred less than one-half mile west of Lewiston-Woodville.

Godwin’s investigation showed that a 2004 Infiniti passenger car driven by Perry ran off the road to the right and struck a ditch and a chain link fence. The vehicle then overturned and collided with a utility pole before coming to rest in the front yard of a private residence along NC 308.

Trooper Godwin said Perry was wearing a seat belt. He died at the scene.

Thus far in 2017, 10 motorists have died on roadways within the Highway Patrol’s Troop A / District II area (Bertie, Gates and Northampton counties). Five of those fatalities have occurred in Bertie County.
