AULANDER, NC – Mary Virginia Wheeler Jenkins, age 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Jenkins was born on September 20, 1939 to the late Magnes Wheeler and Nellie Elizabeth Walker Wheeler. She was married to Sidney Jenkins and had 8 children.
Mary worked at Golden Peanut Company in Aulander for a number of years in addition to various other employment. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and loved working in her flowers. Mrs. Jenkins loved her family and friends dearly and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her Mother and Father, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Story, and Nellie Mae Williams; and brothers, Vernon Wheeler, Paul Wheeler, Raymond Wheeler, Magnus Wheeler Jr. and William Wheeler.
Mary is survived by her husband, Sidney Carol Jenkins, and her children, George Lee Baker and wife Joyce, Tina Baker Rawls and husband Robert, Timothy Carrol Baker and wife Claudia, Jenny Baker Massey and husband Brian, Dedra Baker Warmack and husband Joe, Sidney Jenkins Jr. and wife Pam, Misty Jenkins Gibbs and husband Justin, and Serafina Jenkins Ireland. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one brother, Grady Wheeler and wife Gladys; and one sister, Bettie Wheeler Ropelewski and husband Mike, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Aulander, North Carolina with the Rev. Gregory Hurdle and Rev. Bobby Skeens officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 26, 2017 after the service at Oak Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
