Sarah M. Worrell

COMO, NC – Sarah Elizabeth Morris Worrell, 82, went to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, December 16, 2017, following a stroke on November 3. She was born April 11, 1935, on her family farm in the Rocky Hock community of Chowan County, to the late Robert Payne Morris and Eva Josephine Byrum Morris.

She was a graduate of Chowan High School in 1953 and earned a full scholarship to the DePaul School of Nursing in Norfolk, VA where she graduated in 1956. Later that year, she was united in marriage on November 24, to Wallace Marvin Worrell, Jr. in Edenton, N.C.

She worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) for 41 years. Most of those years were at OBGYN Physicians (Birdsong, Putze and

Clingenpeel) where she established life long friendships with generations of her patients, as well as her fellow professionals in the medical community. Prior to that, she also served in various nursing roles at Southampton Memorial Hospital, and Raiford Memorial Hospital in Franklin, VA and at Chowan Hospital in Edenton, NC.

Sarah was always interested in learning new things, particularly in her profession, where she became a specialist in administering ultrasound technology for her OBGYN patients.

Even in her later years, she embraced technology, and was very active with social media like Facebook, and was a daily user of email, text messaging and sometimes even video chats.

She was a member of Sunbeam Baptist Church for more than 60 years, where she served as a trustee, deacon, pianist, organist, choir member, and Sunday school teacher. Her most favorite role was working with the children of the church, which included Sunday school lessons, musical performances, and special events.

She will always be remembered for her dedication to her family, her humble, pleasant demeanor, and her unshakable, unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Sarah is survived by her sons, Martin Keith Worrell of Greensboro and Steven Woodrow Worrell of Greensboro; daughter-in-law, Kim Matheson Worrell (Steve’s wife) and four grandchildren: Sarah Lane Worrell, Elizabeth Anne Worrell, Steven Woodrow Worrell, Jr. and Matheson Greenwood Worrell.

Other survivors include her siblings, Louvenia Morris Stewart, Ruth Morris Worrell, Josie Morris Lander, Florence Morris Mosley, Mary Morris Greene, Marjorie Morris Atherton, and Samuel Eshion Morris and her many beloved nieces and nephews.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, her parents, and three siblings: Robert Preston Morris, Carolyn Rae Morris, and Franklin Payne Morris. Morris family nephews who preceded her in death were Robert Neil Stewart, Randall Kevin Atherton, Donald Eugene Mosley, and Robert Wallace Worrell.

The family will receive visitors Friday, December 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Wright Funeral Home located at 206 West Fourth Avenue, Franklin,Virginia 23851.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017. The day will begin with a private graveside service for all family members conducted at the Worrell Family Cemetery at 11:00 am followed by a noon lunch for the family at the Sunbeam Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Then at 2:00 pm, the public is invited to a “Celebration of Life” service at the Sunbeam Baptist Church sanctuary located at 31226 Sunbeam Road, Franklin, VA 23851.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, technical specialists, and other medical staff, at VCU Medical Center and Southampton Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Care Facility for their dedication, kindness and support.
