WINTON – If you are looking for a deal on a used vehicle, a public auction next month in Winton is the place to be.
Hertford County local government is disposing of surplus property, a list that includes nine vehicles.
At their Jan. 16 meeting, the Hertford County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution for the disposal of surplus property. That auction, open to the public, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the corner of King and Tryon streets in Winton, near the old county courthouse.
Included on the auction block are five Dodge Chargers (all 2010 models); a 1993 Ford truck; a 2005 Ford E-350 Cargo van; a 2004 Ford Explorer; and a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria.
Other items to be auctioned are an Olympian D25P15 generator (2001 model); a 1982 Trans II trailer; a Fiat-Allis HD6 bulldozer; a Brasor Romania tractor; a 2003 Parker Marine boat/trailer; and a golf cart.
Those making purchases are required to provide at least 10 percent (cash or personal check) of the winning bid at the auction. They have 10 calendar days (from the date of the auction) to pay the remaining balance (cash or cashier’s check) at the transfer of the title.
The auction, complete with a list of the individual items, is required to be published in the local newspaper of record for Hertford County (the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald) at least 10 days prior to the event.
However, Commissioner John Horton said he wished to see the list published more than once.
“Could we get a full week’s worth of publications (in the News-Herald),” Horton inquired. “I’d like to see it published three times (prior to the auction) instead of just one time. I feel a greater percentage of our citizens will see the list if it’s published more than once.”
The resolution was approved, with Horton’s suggestion for three publications, without objection.
Those legal ads will publish in this newspaper.
