AHOSKIE – Boyce Edward “Joe” Spicer, 68, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in his home, surrounded by friends and family.
Mr. Spicer was born in Elkin, Surry County, NC on May 1, 1949, and was the son of the late Sam and Connie Spicer. A graduate of East Wilkes High School, he was named to the 1967 All Northwest Basketball Team. He attended Wingate Junior College, also playing basketball, and graduated from Appalachian State with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Joe was the former owner and operator of Ahoskie Body Shop and most recently, Ahoskie Self-Storage. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie and Beechwood Country Club. Joe loved hunting, playing golf, spending time with friends and family, and always being there to help a friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Holbrook and Christine Greene.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly Ann Rose Spicer; and their son, Matthew Spicer and his wife, Kelly, of Winterville. He was the beloved “Papa Joe” to his grandchildren, Taryn (15), Evan (9), and Emily (4). Also surviving are his sister, Brenda Hardy and her husband, Alvin; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved and adored.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Sunday, February 25 at 2:30 p.m. in First Baptist Church, 312 W. Main Street, Ahoskie, and will be conducted by his pastor, Dr. Trey Gilliam
