Deltas presents ‘Jabberwock 2018’

AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. presented the 2018 Jabberwock Pageant on April 28 at Roanoke Chowan Community College. The theme of the pageant was “An Evening of Elegance and Excellence.”
Dr. Stanley Elliot, President of Roanoke Chowan Community College (RCCC) served as Master of Ceremonies and Mary Harrell-Sessoms served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening.
Musical entertainment was provided by saxophonist, Jashaun Peele. He captivated the evening with inspiring songs of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, as well as recent hit songs. He received standing ovations throughout the evening.
Miss Jabberwock 2016, Miss Brianna Arshay Wesson, is currently a freshman attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, majoring in Biology. Wesson took her final walk as the reigning queen as her farewell address was presented to the audience.
All contestants displayed outstanding gifts and talents during the Talent Showcase. Miss Amaya Heckstall, a senior at Hertford County High School, recited a poem that she wrote entitled “Black Girl Blues.” Miss Carrington Dudley, a junior at Bertie Early College High School, performed a praise dance to the song entitled “He Wants it All.” Miss Ja’Bria Harrell, a senior at Hertford County High School, sang “The Greatest Love”, a hit song by the late Whitney Houston.
The Master and Mistress of Ceremonies presented the 2018 contestants, parents, and escorts. The participants walked with much grace and poise throughout the evening. The contestants and escorts dazzled the evening as they danced the to a fabulous “Waltz.”
The audience, supporters, family, and friends waited patiently to receive the announcement of the runners-up and the 2018 Jabberwock Queen. Miss Carrington Dudley was Second Runner-Up; Miss Amaya Heckstall was First Runner-Up, and Miss Ja’Bria Harrell received the honor of Miss Jabberwock 2018. Miss Harrell was crowned by Miss Brianna A. Wesson. Each contestant will receive an educational scholarship to attend a college or university.
The contestants and escorts received gifts for participation, hard work, and dedication given to the 2018 Jabberwock Pageant. Other honors of recognition included: Miss Congeniality – Carrington Dudley, and Highest GPA and Scrapbook winner was Amaya Heckstall.
Linda McNair-Moore, president of the Ahoskie Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., thanked the contestants, escorts, parents, and the many supporters and contributors for the financial support given to the 2018 Jabberwock Pageant. The Jabberwock Steering Committee was introduced and recognized for its success. Special thanks were extended to the participants, service providers, Roanoke Chowan Community College, and the Added Touch Florist.
