RICH SQUARE – A Conway man died Friday night after the vehicle he was operating was struck head-on by the driver of another vehicle.

Sergeant M.P. Cape of the state Highway Patrol said, according to a preliminary report filed by Trooper T.J. Blount, Willie Joseph Bishop Jr., 61, was traveling on Highway 258 when the crash occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. about a mile north of Rich Square.

Bishop’s vehicle was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by Christopher Earl Stephenson of Woodland.

According to the NCHP’s report, Stephenson’s vehicle crossed the centerline and struck the vehicle driven by Bishop.

Bishop was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt. Cape said the crash remains under investigation and charges against Stephenson are pending.

He added that alcohol or speed were not involved and the contributing factor at this point is that Stephenson’s vehicle crossed the centerline.
