Dance recital set for June 9-10

MURFREESBORO – Susan’s Encore Dance Academy will conduct its annual recital next weekend.
The event – entitled “Dance Party” – will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 10 in the Turner Auditorium, located inside the Columns Building on the campus of Chowan University.
Admission is $12 per person and tickets will be available at the door.
The students, ages 3 through high school seniors, will perform Tap, Ballet, Jazz, and Pointe.
Among those taking part in Susan’s Encore Dance Academy’s recital are, front row from left, Winter Nguyen and Aubree Farmer; second row from left, Victoria Revelle, Emily Pearce, Megan Hampton, and Anne Lee; and back row from left, Virginia Lee, Alli Feher, and Londyn Benthall.
Five-year trophies will be awarded to Ta’Niyah Askew, Liza Pierce, Sadie Jones, Tamiyah Powell, and Olivia Revelle.
Those receiving 10-year trophies will be Katie White, Brianna McCullough, and Kirsten Baggett.
Kaley Hewitt will receive her 15-year trophy and will also be recognized, along with Alanna Morris, as a graduating senior.
It has been a decade since Myrtle Ann Mountcastle decided to retire from teaching dance in Ahoskie. Upon retiring, Mountcastle turned the studio over to former dance student and employee of 15 years, Susan Hunnicutt Nguyen.
Susan received her Bachelor of Science in Dance Education at East Carolina University, where she has since often returned to be a guest teacher. Since graduation she has been teaching dance full time in the public schools for 17 years and continues to study dance throughout the US in her spare time.
