WINTON – Hertford County Department of Social Services recognized Avis Murphy on Friday, June 15 with a celebration and a plaque for her dedicated 23 years of service.

Murphy began her employment with Social Services as an Income Maintenance Caseworker I on February 27, 1995 and retired as the Social Worker II Supervisor of the Work First Unit.

Hertford County DSS officials stated they truly appreciated Avis’ dedication and years of service to the community. They thanked Avis’ family for sharing her with DSS.

Avis is married to Richard L. Murphy, Jr. and they have a son, DeAndre, and one grandchild, DeAuryonna.

Avis Murphy is the daughter of Marcell Banks Faulk and Johnie P. Faulk, Jr. of Suffolk, VA and the late Ollie Cooper, Jr. of Como.

“We will truly miss Avis’ presence in the office. We wish her a happy, relaxing, and enjoyable retirement,” stated DSS officials.
