R-CCC awarded ‘Skill-Up’ grant

AHOSKIE – Roanoke-Chowan Community College has been awarded a $15,000 Project Skill-Up grant to assist local residents who have been negatively affected by the decline in the tobacco industry.
The grant was received through the North Carolina Community Colleges and was funded by the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission.
R-CCC is using the grant to provide financial assistance to Continuing Education students during the 2018-19 academic year. Qualified students may receive up to $500 to be used for tuition, books, and fees. Through skills assessments, short-term occupational training, and career development counseling, the purpose of Project Skill-Up is to retrain workers to obtain marketable skills and quickly enter the workforce.
Eligible courses include: Certified Nursing Assistant I & II, Dietary Manager, EMT Basic, Medical Billing and Coding, Paramedic Training, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, Production Technician, Welding Plate Certification, and Career Readiness Certification.
