In Windsor, visiting Riverside broke a 14-14 stalemate late in the first quarter en route to a 34-28 win over Bertie in the season opener for both clubs. Isaiah Williams led Bertie with three TD’s – running for two and passing for one. Chris Cooper led Bertie on the ground with 94 rushing yards.

At Easons Crossroads, Greg Crandol scored on a two-yard run with exactly one minute left in the game and Caleb Brickhouse added the all-important PAT kick as the home-standing Red Barons stunned Chowan River rival Hertford County 21-20 in the season opener.
HCHS quarterback Tye Saxby accounted for all three TD’s for the Bears – passing for a pair of scores and running for another.
Northampton County – 42
Roanoke Rapids – 23
In a non-conference battle for Roanoke River supremacy, Northampton held the upper hand in the 2018 season opener. The home-standing Jaguars feasted on Roanoke Rapids miscues, forcing four turnovers, three of which coming in the first quarter where Northampton built a 22-0 lead. The Jags returned an interception for a TD and also scored off a blocked punt.
