All local schools/colleges close due to hurricane

Schools in the Roanoke-Chowan area are gearing up for Hurricane Florence as it nears the North Carolina coastline.
Bertie Public Schools announced they will be closed beginning Wednesday until further notice. This applies to both students and staff members.
Lawrence Academy made the decision to cancel classes for the rest of the week. An assessment will be made at a later date on when to reopen.
Three Rivers Academy, a charter school in Powellsville, will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Bethel Assembly Christian Academy in Askewville will dismissed students and faculty at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12. The school will remain closed Thursday and Friday, Sept. 13-14.
In Northampton County, the public schools sent its students home early on Wednesday while faculty and staff will work as normal. All public schools in the county will be closed Thursday and Friday. An assessment will be made later on when to reopen.
Northeast Academy dismiss edat 12 noon Wednesday. The school will remain closed Thursday and Friday, but plans to resume classes on Monday. This is subject to change depending on weather conditions.
Hertford County Public Schools had an early release day on Wednesday. All public schools in the county will be closed for students and staff on Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14.
The schools will announce any further updates, delays and closings as more information becomes available.
Ridgecroft School closed at 12 noon on Wednesday. They will remain closed Thursday and Friday, and then will later decide as to when to reopen after that.
Classes at Ahoskie Christian School are cancelled on both Thursday and Friday.
Gates County Public Schools will be closed to students and staff on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 13-14.
Effective at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, Chowan University classes are canceled until further notice. The University will continue monitoring Hurricane Florence and will share updates regarding the reopening of the campus and the resumption of classes as they develop. Students may check updates via Chowan email, the CUHawkAlert System, and the University website.
Roanoke-Chowan Community College closed at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 12 for all students and staff. RCCC will remain closed through Sunday, Sept. 16.
Halifax Community College closed at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12 and classes are canceled for Thursday and Friday, Sept. 13-14. HCC officials said they plan to re-open on Monday, Sept. 17.
